Planning Your Summer Vacation? 3 Steps To Take To Make Sure Your Teeth Will Be Protected

If you're in the process of planning your summer vacation, don't forget about your teeth. The last thing you want is to end up with dental problems while you're trying to enjoy your vacation. Even if you take excellent care of your teeth, dental emergencies can pop up when you least expect them. To make sure your teeth are prepared for vacation, here are three steps you should take before you leave.

1. Start with a Visit to Your Dentist

If you're going to be going on an extended vacation, the first thing you need to do is make a visit to your dentist. You want to make sure that any potential dental problems are taken care of before you leave on vacation. Not making that last-minute trip to the dentist could leave you to face some serious dental problems while you're away from home. Not only that, but you want to make sure that your teeth look their best while you're on vacation, especially with all the photographs that are sure to be taken. Scheduling a pre-vacation dental appointment will allow you to get your teeth cleaned and whitened before you leave.

2. Look for a Dentist in Your Network

You never know when a dental emergency is going to pop up while you're on vacation. Even with the best dental care, you could end up with a broken tooth, or a toothache. To make sure you have access to a dentist while you're on vacation, look for one that's in your network. That way, wherever you go on vacation, you'll have access to a dentist that's covered by your insurance.

If you're not able to find a dentist in your network where you'll be traveling to, and you're faced with a dental emergency while you're on vacation, be sure to keep receipts for any dental care you pay cash for. You may be able to submit those receipts to your insurance company for reimbursement. You should also get a copy of the work that's done. When you get home, you can give those copies to your dentist so that your dental records can be updated.

3. Bring a Mouth Guard with You

If you're planning on some high adventures while you're on vacation, be sure you're ready to protect your teeth from injury. Talk to your dentist about a custom-fitted mouth guard. That way, your teeth will be well-protected while you're enjoying your adventures this summer.
