Is There Such A Thing As A Quick Fix In Cosmetic Dentistry?

Dental problems such as cavities, tooth decay and gum disease can cause serious problems if not dealt with quickly and efficiently. These problems are usually considered general issues and are fairly common. The area of cosmetic dentistry helps you to feel better about your smile and overall tooth appearance. You might believe the fixes are harder to make when problems arise. Is there such a thing as a quick fix in cosmetic dentistry? There are in fact a few easier solutions to certain problems.

Gum Problems and Treatment

Aside from gum disease and receding gums, there are other issues with gums that can arise. Sometimes, gums will appear uneven or even overly visible when you smile. A cosmetic dentist may fix these issues using a treatment such as using a laser or cutting a portion of the gums to make them less visible or uneven. This portion of the gums are attached to the teeth, not into the bone of your jaw. This is where the dentist will make the cuts.

The reason for fixing the gums like this is to lengthen the look of the teeth and in some cases, not to have so much of the gum visible when you smile. A dentist may also use laser treatment to level out uneven gums and even to clean them.

Dental Bleaching

Dental bleaching is when the dentist uses a laser to bleach the teeth so they retain a clean, white appearance. This can help with stains caused by smoking, drinking coffee or wine and even possible natural discoloration your teeth may have. Teeth bleaching may be done at home to some extent with over-the-counter products that are popular today, but they don't tend to have the same level of effect.

Breakage, Spaces and Tooth Decay

Teeth that have spaces, breakage and any tooth decay should not be fixed simply for cosmetic reasons, but they too have quick fixes. For example, broken teeth and spaces can be fixed by using a composite to create the appearance of healthy, strong teeth. This is called the composite laminate technique. A dentist may also use veneers or cosmetic crowns in the case of broken teeth if the composite laminate technique isn't enough to fix the problem.

When decay or rotting occurs between teeth, it can make their appearance look dirty and even make you appear older than you are. This issue can be fixed simply by cleaning out the decay and having fillings put in, similar to having a cavity filled.
